Planning your honeymoon is definitely one of the best parts of the wedding process. It’s your official first trip as husband and wife, and kicks off your journey together in the best way possible – through travel! But before you choose your honeymoon destination, here are 3 important questions to answer.
What is the budget for your honeymoon?
The first thing to think about is your budget. How much can you afford to spend on your trip? Finalising your budget will give you a better indication of what destinations you can go to and what you’ll be able to do there.
If you’re struggling to settle on a number, just choose a price range or ceiling point. But if you’re strapped for cash, try setting up a honeymoon registry and asking family and friends to contribute towards your getaway.
What time of year are you planning on going and how much time can you take off for your honeymoon?
The time of year is very important when deciding what destination to visit. Things to consider include crowds, prices, local customs and weather. For example, India during June is extremely hot, or if you’re thinking of visiting the Caribbean islands such as Jamaica, Bermuda, and the Bahamas it is important to know that September and October are both prime hurricane months.
Tip: Think about taking your trip during off seasons to help save money while still getting the ultimate experience no matter what destination you choose.
Next, figure out how long you can honeymoon for. Of course, you’ll have to consider how many days you can take off from work, you’ll also need to consider budget and itineraries. If you don’t have many vacation days left, why not take a mini-moon and save for a bigger trip in the future. This is also a great option if money is an issue. Ideally you want to be able to spend 5 days or more at your destination.
Tip: Remember to consider travelling time to and from your destination.
What is your honeymoon style?
What type of honeymoon would you like to have? Are you:
- Adventure seekers?
- City explorers?
- Beach lovers?
It’s important to pick a destination that you both envision visiting. If you have different tastes, consider a place that offers a bit of both. Many newly weds love visiting beach destinations. After all the wedding planning, who wouldn’t love relaxing on a beach? But if you’re someone who is more into hiking up a mountain than working on your tan, then go for it! There are tons of different options for everyone. And, again if you’re unable to go on your dream honeymoon trip right after your wedding, you can always do it in the future.
