Wedding funds low? – Top 5 ways to save money on your big day

Save money on your wedding

If your wedding fund is getting a little tight then follow my top 5 tips to save money on your big day:

  1. Negotiate yourself a deal

My husband and I didn’t pay full price for any of the main items for our wedding . We negotiated with every supplier and we estimate that we saved a couple of £1,000! If we couldn’t get a discount then we tried to get something we wanted thrown in for free. Check out brides guide to negotiation post to find out how.

  1. Something borrowed.

Borrowing is an essential part of the wedding rituals and best of all its usually free! We borrowed jam jars from my mother in law (find out why in my wedding jam jar post), earrings from my mum, my best friend’s veil  and venue styling props from friends. Make sure you get everything back to the rightful owners at the end of the night.

  1. Phone a friend

We’ve all got friends who have useful talents, if you have a best friend who’s an amazing baker then ask her to bake your cake, or one that is a whizz on a camera and photoshop then why hire a photographer. Or someone who’s a great singer they could sing at your ceremony. What’s more they will be flattered that you asked them, how will they ever say no!

  1. DIY

Creative Wedding Co was created to help brides DIY their way to a unique and creative wedding and create their own wedding less ordinary. Our DIY guides are set out for all levels of skill and effort (bride cheats, Superstar bride and extreme bride). There is something for everyone. What’s more our approach at Creative Wedding Co helps you take an idea and change it to create your own truly unique wedding.

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff – focus on your must haves

It’s so easy to go overboard with your wedding. I ended up buying a few things that we didn’t use as I got carried away with my wedding planning, ok perhaps it was the wedding shopping I really got carried away with!  So think about what’s most important and get those things sorted first using the above top tips. If there’s funds left over then you can add more to the list. Oh and it may be a good idea to include your husband to be in this exercise – just a thought! Our top wedding priorities downloadable will help you both do this.

For those of you that need a little help to reign in your wedding spending (like me!) we’ve created a free downloadable budget template especially for our Creative Wedding Co Brides to be. You can access the downloadable here
